  • Do I have to be in good shape before I start?
    No, you will get into shape as you train. Everything is at your own pace. The key is to be consistent!
  • I am ## years old, am I too old to start martial arts?"
    No, you are never too old to begin martial arts training.
  • What is the difference between Judo and other martial arts?
    Judo literally translates to "the gentle way" because it is a Martial Art that does not include the use of hitting or kicking. Judo is a Japanese Martial Art that focuses primarily on groundwork and tossing techniques.
  • I work a shift schedule, how much time do I need to devote to Judo classes?"
    Adult classes are offered on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. It is recommended to attend class as frequently as your schedule allows. You can structure your other fitness activity to compliment your Judo training. As you progress through the ranks if you want more 1:1 attention we offer 1 hour private lessons which can further help hone your skills.
  • How long does it take to get a black belt?
    To test for Judo black belt in Canada, a person must be at least 15 years old, have been an ikkyū (brown belt) for at least one year, been active in Judo for at least three years with a valid association membership, and have 120 points. This means it can take at least 6+years to reach black belt depending on your committment, and possibly longer.
  • What sort of things should I consider when choosing Judo?
    If you are looking for an inexpensive way to get exercise in a group setting, learn new skills that translate into other areas of your life, meet new people and have fun, then Judo is a good choice for you!
